I’m a Chicago-based photographer and the person behind Johnathan Sims Photography, a proudly Black-owned photography business inspired by people, places, and the stories that make each of us unique.
I’ve always been drawn to the beauty of everyday life - the little moments, genuine expression, unexpected adventures, and places that leave a lasting impression. Photography gives me a way to hold on to those experiences and share how I see the world.
One of my favorite things about photography is the opportunity to connect with people. I love capturing personalities, celebrating individuality, and creating portraits that feel natural and authentic.
Hey, I’m Johnathan.
When I’m not photographing people, you’ll probably find me exploring somewhere new with my camera in hand. Traveling has become one of my greatest sources of inspiration, whether I’m wandering through the streets of Istanbul, taking in the coastal beauty of Greece, or discovering something new closer to home. Every destination offers a different perspective, and I love finding ways to bring those experiences to life through my photography.
As a Black creative and entrepreneur, representation and authentic storytelling are especially meaningful to me. I want my work to celebrate the beauty of our differences while highlighting the experiences and connections that bring us together.
